Revenge
Yu-Fei (Eva) Kao’s Revenge (2014) is a 2D cel-animation based on a poem by Joseph Silver that explores a revenge cycle within a couple’s life. It is a strange story about betrayal that could happen to anyone and has a crazy unexpected ending. To produce the dream-like world presented in Revenge, Kao created separately painted gouache on paper layers, which were then scanned and digitally altered under superimposed fragments of hand-lettered words. Revenge’s poetic depiction of infidelity is a tender space for recovery from the emotional torment associated with betrayal.
